Microblading

What is microblading?
Microblading is a semi-permanent technique that mimics your own brow; only better! Microblading helps fill in sparse or thin eyebrows and provides a perfectly symmetrical and natural look. Microblading is carried out by using a special hand-tool, which holds sterile disposable microblades. The pigment is deposited into the epidermis very carefully with the hand-tool which allows the technician to create super fine and crisp hair-like strokes.
How long does the procedure take?
The length of time varies on a patient to patient basis. Not everyone’s eyebrows are exactly the same. Some are very thick, very thin, or non-existent. The initial appointment typically lasts 2 hours. This time includes consultation, custom shaping, custom color, and full treatment session. The second appointment occurs 5 weeks later where secondary consultation occurs to perfect the shape and color with overall review of satisfaction and expectations is conducted. This appointment typically averages about 1 hour.
Does it hurt?
Everyone’s pain tolerance is different. Being a medical office, we use medical grade numbing techniques to minimize discomfort during the procedure. Most clients are very surprised that there is such minimal discomfort! Our dedicated staff with 20+ years of experience performing cosmetic tattooing & our on-site physician will put your mind and your brows at ease!
How long is the healing process?
Healing can take up to 2 weeks. Your new eyebrows will go through several phases during the healing cycle. The pigment will appear darker immediately after the procedure, this is because the pigment is still sitting on top of the skin and has not yet settled completely. The color of the pigment will lighten and soften gradually. Once the healing of the skin starts taking place, it will appear flaky or dry. DO NOT EVER PICK, peel, or scrub the microbladed area as it will damage the skin healing process and may result in skin complications. It is very important to let the brows heal at their own pace.
True or False: No working out for 7 to 10 days afterwards?
True! You absolutely must avoid heavy physical activity, excess sweating, and extreme heat after your procedure. Light exercise and minimal sweating is okay but you’ll have to clean your eyebrow area immediately after. The salt in sweat can actually fade the pigment resulting in less color retention.
Are there any skincare products I need to stay away from during the healing process?
During the healing process, you do not want to use any Retinol, Vitamin C, BHA, AHA, and acne cleansers because they typically have salicylic acid and glycolic acid in them, which can compromise your pigment and color retention. Our experienced staff will review proper after care instructions.
After everything is healed, can you get your eyebrows waxed still? Can you still fill them in with a pencil if you want?
After the brows are completely healed you can have the brows waxed and you can also apply pencils or powders to the brows.
How long does the semi-permanent pigment last?
Pigment can last up to 3 years but also varies on a patient to patient basis. Many patients want to maintain darker pigmentation and elect to schedule touch-up visits at 1 year. This is an elective appointment but is encouraged to enhance the longevity of great brows.
I got my eyebrows microbladed and it didn’t last as long as they said it would. Any idea why that could be?
Contributing factors include pigment color (the lighter the color, the faster it will fade), lifestyle (sun exposure will speed up the pigmentation fading process; always put SPF 50 on your eyebrows), and iron deficiencies (if you are iron deficient, your body can absorb the pigment as a supplement which will cause the pigment to fade faster), age (if you are young, your skin cell turnover is faster so the pigment will last longer). Also, the quality of pigments, experience of the provider, and depths of strokes make all the difference – along with following the providers after care instructions!
Do you have any follow-up visits? If so, how many?
Following your first session, it is highly recommended to get a touch-up within 5-6 weeks. This is to ensure that your eyebrows healed properly and to refine and darken any pigment in any places that need perfecting. Any follow-ups after the first appointment depends on your personal preference and depends how sharp and defined or soft and natural you want your eyebrows to look.
Can I get a touch-up session sooner than 5 weeks?
Touch-up sessions should not be done earlier than 5 weeks after initial microblading session as pigment color has not fully settled into the skin. Most importantly, this is to prevent scar damage as the tissue requires time to completely heal.
What are the pre and post care procedures?
Prior to your procedure, clients are advised of the following:
- Prior to treatment, avoid alcohol and asprin/ibuprofen and any vitamins that may thin your blood for 72 hours.
- Avoid tanning so we can assess your natural skin tone.
- Reference pictures of shapes and colors of brows are always welcomed. We will then work together to create the perfect brows!
After your procedure, clients MUST follow these instructions:
- Keep the brows dry for 2 days.
- Days 5-7 a small amount of Aquaphor morning and night.
- Do not immerse brow area in water for 2 days. When showering, make sure to avoid face area directly. When cleansing or washing the face, make sure to avoid brows and clean around it.
- Do not put makeup on the brow area for a minimum of 7 days. Microbladed area is an open wound, using makeup may cause infection.
- Brow area will feel slightly itchy as it heals and will start to lightly flake. Do not peel or pick at brows, as this can affect the outcome and pigmentation.
- Do not go swimming, tanning, or into saunas for at least 14 days.
- No face scrubs or chemical peels in the brow area at least 2 weeks after treatment.
